The Harvest Festival, also known as Laba Festival, is celebrated on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month. To celebrate and appreciate the hard work of the farmers throughout the year, it is a tradition to cook and eat Laba Congee (made with variety of rices, beans and nuts) on this day.

The Harvest Festival is not a widely celebrated festival in China. Some regions in China make Laba garlic by soaking them in vinegar. These garlic are then used as a seasoning of Chinese dumplings around Chinese New Year time.
